APPLICATION FOR A TRANSIT VISA FOR AUSTRALIA (SUBCLASS 771)
Transit visas are for people who intend to remain in Australia no longer than 72 hours and who can establish that the principal purpose in entering Australia is:
* to pass through Australia in transit to another country (where a 'stopover' is intended, the applicant should apply for the appropriate visa in a visitor class instead); or
* to pass through Australia to join a vessel as a crew member
The applicant's stay in Australia must be for no longer than 72 hours. Extensions of stay will not be granted.
Documentation Required:
1. Duly completed and signed application Form 876
2. One recent passport size photograph of the applicant
3. Copy of travel itinerary indicating the following:
- date and time of departure from your home country and flight number
- date and time of arrival in Australia and flight number
- date and time of departure from Australia and flight number
- date and time of arrival in your home country and flight number
4. A supporting letter from your employer or sponsoring organisation stating the following (if applicable):
- purpose of transit to Australia
- period of stay in Australia
- details of the country that the applicant intends to visit, take up employment or
reside permanently
- details of who will meet the cost of the trip and related expenses
5. Evidence that the applicant has been granted a visa for the country that the applicant intends to visit, take up employment or reside permanently
6. The applicant may be requested to provide the following:
- a copy of the airline ticket with confirmed dates
- proof of financial support
7. For minors travelling accompanied by one parent only must provide a written certified authorisation from the non-accompanying parent.
Same applies for minors applying for a visa with one parent only must provide a certified authorisation from the other parent even though the other parent will be travelling with the minor
8. For minors travelling or applying for a visa without their parents must provide a certified authorisation from both parents for a visa to be granted to them
Applications may be lodged only on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday between 10.00 am and 12.00 pm
For applicants outside of Mauritius, applications must be forwarded to this office by PREPAID courier service
