Political and Research Officer

Selection Criteria
(In your application, please provide examples of how your academic and work experience to date assists you in meeting these criteria)
1. Demonstrated ability to conduct research and analysis using publicly available materials. Ability to produce high-quality succinct written reports in English on political, economic and foreign policy issues in countries of responsibility.
2. Strong communication skills, including the ability to speak and write fluently and effectively in English and French. Ability to undertake translation of documents into both languages to a high degree of professionalism. Demonstrated ability with a variety of written styles, including business English and French.
3. Good understanding of domestic political and foreign policy issues in the Indian Ocean region including trade and legislative processes. Knowledge of contemporary Australian issues would be useful.
4. Strong organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise, meet deadlines and contribute effectively to work objectives. Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adaptable to fast-moving changes in work priorities.
5. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise with a wide range of clients, including senior representatives of government. Ability to work collaboratively within a small team, including the provision of back up support for other positions within the mission.
6. Computer literacy, including the use of Microsoft 2007 business applications (eg. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the Internet.
To note:
While a tertiary degree will be an advantage in an application, it is not essential.
The successful applicant must have the capacity to work outside standard office hours when required, and be able to undertake occasional short-term travel in the Indian Ocean region
