APPLICATION FOR A VISITOR VISA FOR AUSTRALIA
Documentation to be submitted:
1. Duly completed and signed application (Form 48R) - application form may be collected from the Australian High Commission or downloaded from the websites http://www.mauritius.embassy.gov.au and www.immi.gov.au
2. 1 recent passport size photograph of the applicant
3. A valid passport with at least 6 months validity after departure from Australia
4. Visa processing fee of Mauritian Rupees 2,600 Payment must be made in Mauritian rupees in cash or by bank guaranteed cheque made to the order of the Australian High Commission. Personal and other cheques, other methods of payments and payment in other currencies are not accepted.
5. If visiting family or friends, a letter of invitation duly signed by the sponsor and evidence of the sponsor’s Australian citizenship or resident status (eg a photocopy of the sponsor’s Australian citizenship certificate or Australian passport or residence visa)
6. If visiting family or friends who are temporary residents in Australia, a letter of invitation duly signed by the sponsor and a copy of the sponsor’s temporary residence visa
7. If staying in a hotel, evidence of hotel bookings made
8. Evidence of financial support:
(a) Applicants are required to demonstrate to this office that they have sufficient funds to cover the cost of return airfares and for personal support for the period of stay in Australia. As proof of funds applicants must provide a bank statement indicating the account holder’s name, account number and bank balance and there must be sufficient money on that account to cover the above expenses (return airfares and pocket money)
(b) If applicants will be supported financially by the sponsor in Australia, a written undertaking and proof of funds from the sponsor must be provided. The sponsor must provide a bank statement indicating the account holder’s name, account number and bank balance and there must be sufficient money on that account to cover the cost of return airfares and for personal support for the applicant’s period of stay in Australia
9. Letter of leave from the employer indicating the period of leave granted, whether paid or unpaid leave, date expected to resume work and whether job will still be available on return
10. Evidence of business registration if applicant is self-employed (eg copy of trade licence, Municipality permit, etc)
11. Letter of leave from school period of leave granted or evidence of enrolment at School/University
12. Applicants under 18 years of age travelling unaccompanied by both parents and applying for a visa on their own must provide joint written permission from both parents witnessed by the Police or by any legal authority of the country. The ORIGINAL of this letter must be provided
13. Applicants under 18 years of age travelling and applying for a visa with one parent only must provide a written permission from the other parent witnessed by the Police whether the other parent is accompanying or not accompanying on the trip. The ORIGINAL of this letter must be provided
14. Applicants aged 70 years and over must provide a certificate of health and fitness to travel by air from their medical practitioner (please request the 70 years and Over Doctor’s Proforma from the Reception or Visa counter)
15. Applicants aged 70 years and over must provide evidence of a medical insurance cover for their period of stay in Australia
The processing time for a Visitor visa is between 2 to 5 working days if the application is fully documented. However, additional time may be required if the application is not fully documented and if an interview is warranted. Applicants are urged to lodge their applications at least 3 weeks before proposed date of departure.
APPLICATIONS MAY BE LODGED ON any MONDAY, TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY from 10.00 am to 12.00 pm
For applicants outside of Mauritius, applications must be forwarded to this office by PREPAID courier service
