The Role of the Australian High Commission

The Australian High Commission/Embassy is accredited to the Republic of Mauritius, Republic of Seychelles, Madagascar and the Federal Islamic Republic of Comoros. We also have consular responsibility for Reunion Island and the British Indian Ocean Territories.

The role of the High Commission/Embassy includes promoting Australian interests in our countries of accreditation, encouraging trade, and providing assistance to Australian citizens in need.

There are three Australian Government Departments and Agencies represented in the High Commission/Embassy:

The Australian Agency for International Development no longer maintains an office in Port Louis. Bilateral Aid from the Australian Government to Mauritius has been discontinued apart from: continuing student scholarships (no new scholarships) managed from Pretoria.
