Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID)

The Australian Government's overseas aid program is a Federal Government funded program that reduces poverty in developing countries. The Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) manages the program.
 

Australia, through AusAID, works with other governments, the United Nations, Australian companies and non-government organisations to design and set up projects which tackle the causes and consequences of poverty in developing counties.

Australia Awards

The Australia Awards initiative was announced by the Australian Prime Minister in 2009 and aims to maximise the benefit of the Australian Government’s extensive scholarship programs, and to support enduring ties between Australia and its neighbours.

 Small Grants Programs

The Australian High Commission operates a number of small grants programs in Mauritius (including Rodrigues Island), Seychelles, Comoros and Madagascar.
 

The Direct Aid Program (DAP) is a flexible, small grants scheme for development activities managed by Heads of Australian Missions in approximately 45 countries. The emphasis of the program is on alleviating basic humanitarian hardships.Through the Australian High Commission in Mauritius, DAP projects are funded in Mauritius (including Rodrigues), Madagascar, Seychelles and Comoros.

The Australia Africa Community Grants Scheme (AACGS) is a flexible grants program funded directly by the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID). It is intended to support community-based activities being implemented by non-government organisations that promote sustainable economic and social development.

Funding under AACGS is available to selected activities in Mauritius (including Rodrigues Island), Madagascar, Seychelles and Comoros.

The Australian Sports Outreach Program (ASOP) focuses on increasing community participation in sport and physical activity. Funding under this program is provided to assist targeted small-medium size community sport development projects in developing Commonwealth countries not normally assisted under the Pacific or southern African components of the ASOP. The Australian High Commission in Port Louis accepts ASOP projects from Mauritius, Seychelles and Madagascar and Comoros.

ASOP is also designed to offer an effective vehicle for addressing broader community issues such as health promotion, leadership and social cohesion through sport and physical activity.

The Human Rights Grants Scheme provides grant funding to non-government organisations and human rights institutions based or operating in developing countries to promote and protect human rights in direct and tangible ways. Non-Government Organisations in Mauritius (including Rodrigues Island), Seychelles, Comoros and Madagascar are eligible to apply. Information on how to apply can be found here.
