Clean Up the World 2012

The annual Clean Up the World weekend will be held from 14 to 16 September 2012.

Clean Up the World is an international community based environmental campaign that inspires and empowers communities from every corner of the globe to clean up, fix up and conserve their environment. The campaign was launched in 1993 by Australian solo-yachtsman and builder, Ian Kiernan.

Now in its 20th year, Clean Up the World, held in conjunction with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), mobilises an estimated 35 million volunteers from 130 countries annually, making it one of the largest community-based environmental campaigns in the world. The campaign brings together businesses, community groups, schools, governments and individuals in a range of activities and programs that positively improve local environments. The theme chosen for the 2012 campaign is 'Our place…Our Planet…Our responsibility..'

If your organisation is interested in participating in this year's campaign, then please go to www.cleanuptheworld.org to register your planned 'clean up' activities.  The High Commission would be interested to hear about any activities that you are organising - please email us at ahc.portlouis@dfat.gov.au
